Yesterday legend Irving Penn, was said to have passed away . I recall the moment I first saw his art. I remember looking at a photography book and no knowing who was behind these beautiful images. A friend of mine then eduacted me on the legend Irving Penn.  His photographs were one of a kind, being published in the Harpar’s Bazaar and having worked for Vogue for many years, his art left a lasting impression on anyone who saw it. He was one of the first to photograph his subjects in front of a grey or white background. He brought to the forefront simplicity in photographs, which created the impact in his photographs and brought the attention to detail, to his subjects. Although he wasn’t the only one, it is said that he was one of the most effective at this method.

One thing is certain, legends live forever. His art will live forever. My prayers and condolences go out to his friends, family and colleagues.

Please visit his site www.irvingpenn.com for a list of his books

I have also shared below some of my favorite images that I was able to find online. Enjoy !
