Today, I came into the office ready to continue training my assistant. Very thankful for her by the way. She is going to make my life so much easier. Then out of nowhere an unexpected visitor walks into my office. Not sure how he got past front desk, as we have strict policies here. If you don’t have a meeting you normally can’t get in.
Let me give you some background on this guy. I am sure you know a few people like this, which is why I am sharing. You know the one, very pleasant, always wants to get in on whatever you are working on. Contributing great ideas, and then before you know it, for some reason or another he has disappeared. Yes disappeared, into thin air. His phone is no longer being answered, he doesn’t reply to your many emails, or voice mails. He left you hanging, looking like a fool at the 5 th hour, after you have gotten other people involved on his great ideas. He did that to me once. I dismissed it, after 2 months of no sign of life from him, he finally comes back, and I believe him and give him the benefit of the doubt. I give him another chance. Once again we go through the same motions, again I offer him the benefit of the doubt after he resurfaces after 3 months. I figured ok, one last time, after he swears up and down to me that he will never do this again.
Not sure what made me give him a third chance. Maybe it’s cause somewhere deep down inside, I like to give people three chances. The first time may be a misunderstanding. The second time I will take the blame, for argument’s sake. The third time, there is definitely a problem.
So the last time I saw him was in June. He made all these promises for a gala that I was working on. Took all these responsibilities, and made promises to several people on the team. Now, 4 months later is when I finally see him again. Showing up at my office all jolly, as if nothing ever happened. As if I haven’t been trying to get a hold of him since June. Needless to say, I was caught off guard. My mood shifted, I really wanted to tell him to F-off. Clearly, I couldn’t. He stood at my desk and talked more crap in my ears, about what he was involved in and how we could get involved. I interrupted him, and plainly said “You let me down many times, I am not sure I have time to waste being disappointed by you again. You have continuously made me look bad in front of people, by cosigning for you, and you leaving us all hanging.”
The End. If you ever come across those people in business. Don’t let them keep fooling you. You will be the fool in the end. Just had to do a bit of venting…
Thank you for listening !
