Last night inspiration came to me in the most unsuspecting way. As I have mentioned before, if you are open to being inspired, you will start getting inspired randomly, when you never expected to be. I was sitting on the subway, minding my own business, listening to my ipod on my way back from the gym. An elderly man walks in, sees an empty cup of coffee on the ground picks it up. I think to myself “GROSS, someone once drank that, what is he going to do with that?”. Then I watch him pick up all the litter people had left behind on the subway. I was ashamed right away for thinking what I had thought. Imagine if everyone did their part and picked up after themselves?
What that man did made me think of a quote I had heard before: “The Journey of thousand miles begins with one step” Lao – tzu.
He may have been one random man picking up garbage off the floor to dispose of it, but essentially he was doing his part. Which made me reflect on the quote even more, as with anything all it takes to contribute to something or begin an accomplishment is ONE STEP. So start your journey, whatever it is, take the one step you have been procrastinating on taking. Others may look at you as though you are crazy, but who cares, as long as you know what the journey is you owe it to yourself to take that one step.
