In my line of job, if you can’t summarize important facts in just a few points, they say you probably can’t sell it. If you can’t sell it then you miss out.
I find it funny that I am often asked where I see myself later in life, and as I am speaking and listening to myself it sounds like too much information. If I were to take all the jibber jabber out what would be left. What are the main things in life I want, without the fluff? What are the main things in life you want without all those extra words and sentences? I was speaking to a stranger last week, and he asked me so what do you want out of life. To my great suprised this is exactly how I answered him:
1- Quit my job and work for myself
2-Travel the world while working for myself from my laptop
3- Have a family
4- Save the world
5- Publish a book
I have never summarized all I wanted to do in such brief points. I was proud of myself because even I now could see more clearly exactly what I wanted. I was actually shocked because I had never mentioned to anyone this is what I wanted, I don’t think I had ever admitted it to myself. These are the things I want in the deepest of my heart, and I feel would make me the happiest. Sometimes when you take out all the extra stuff, you get to what really matters, what you really want. I am pretty sure I can sell this now, since it isn’t filled with unecessary information. This in its truest, most simplest form is what I want. Sometimes we get lost in all the extras.
Try it, what do you want? Summarize it simply, without additional descriptions, long sentences and punctuations. What do you want for yourself?
