The gym thing is not for me, but I like to find a way to stay at peace. I have a hard time falling sleep at night, I have a hard time waking up, I lack energy through my day. Oh and I am saying no to nicotine as of Sunday. I have done yoga before but never at a Yoga studio, I normally do it at my gym. A friend of mine recommended I try out Moksha Yoga studio in North York, saying it was THE BEST yoga studio she had ever been to. I am trying to quit smoking, on day 3 of no cigarettes, so I need to find a way to keep my mind busy. With a co sign like that, how could I not go find out. In case you have never tried hot yoga, here is a list of some of the benefits. Here is the website for Moksha Yoga had to say about it : ” ‘Moksha Yoga’ is to attain enlightenment -a state of being that brings understanding of our true nature as sentient beings, opens a sense of deep liberation, and frees us from the suffering of every day life. In choosing our name, we thought we’d aim high!Moksha can also be translated as freedom. The Moksha Yoga series is free to change and evolve based on the needs of the students. The Moksha Yoga series was designed to free areas of the body that are often habitually tight and constricted – lower back, hips, knees, shoulders and neck. In this process the body is strengthened, toned, and opened, while the mind becomes still. Space is created within so that each student moves towards the full potential in their life. “
Coooooool I guess, let’s be real here none of that really stuck with me except for the word freedom and I need a lot of that. So I went in, before the class even started, drank a lot of water as I was recommended to. I signed up for a monthly class. Something about walking into the studio makes you feel like its all about Yoga and you are gonna get just your ass kicked in hot yoga.
I walk into the Yoga studio and I start to panic, noticing its much hotter than I thought it would be. Gradually my breathing starts to pace itself and its not so bad. It took about 15 minutes into the training for me to forget how hot it was and just focus on the breathing technique and the posing. Slowly I felt my body relaxing, I was drenched in my own sweat but I knew it was working. At the end of the class, I felt so relaxed. I was glad I signed up for a month. I think I am going to take up a Yoga challenge on myself. See what the results can be.(You can check out a brief outline of what the basic structure of a Moksha Yoga class is here.)
I give Moksha 2 thumbs up ! Loved everything about it, no complaint. After checking out their site, they even have monthly yoga tips, which I think are really cool. They even do training sessions available to everyone interested in different parts of the world. Yoga in Costa Rica or India for a month, now that sounds like fun.
They have tons of locations, check them out here. Let me know how it goes, and I will keep you posted with my non smoking, yoga journey.
Peace
D.
