Business etiquette : So much for that job offer

I was offered a job a few months back, out of nowhere. I even shared with you some of my excitement.  It involved me relocating to another city. I got really excited about it, went out there to do a few interviews. I was told the job was mine basically. Then came January, I was told that I would need to wait til mid January to get a final contract. The end of January came, I was told that I would need to wait til the end of February to get a final answer as they now had new candidates.

Hold on a minute, I got super excited because he spoke to me implying the job was mine and all we needed to do was sign the papers. I was ready to relocate my whole life and start new…  And they still couldn’t get back to me. I found that to be a bit unprofessional. Not a bit actually A LOT ! I was getting organized to move, I was getting in the right state of mind to leave my job, and leave my comfort zone. Right after January, I started to fall into a slump. I was hurt and disapointed. I thought this was mine for the taking.

Can you say broken heel moment? After finding out that they would get back to me at the end of February, I decided that I no longer wanted this job. The back and forth they put me through, the indecisiveness was not making me feel good at all. I mean after all, they offered me the job. No matter how much money they are offering, I don’t like the way they treated this situation. I should add as well that we are now in March, and I still haven’t heard back from them. Now imagine I was actually waiting for this job.

Can’t believe it … Business etiquette rule #1 treat others the way you would like to be treated.
