I grew up with my father, who raised me on his own for many years. Despite the fact that he cheated on my mother, he loved me the best way he knew how. He loved me to the best of his ability.

Something that he failed to note is that he was not only to love and provide for me, but as his daughter he would be the example I would model my future boyfriend, husband after. I feel that he failed to show me a proper example of what I should tolerate as acceptable love from another man. He cheated on my mother, and now I just learned that he is cheating on his current wife. I can’t help but ask- if he takes time to think of how this will affect me as a woman. Is this what he would like for me, to find a man that will cheat on me too and be unfaithful.

Am I supposed to accept the fact that men simply cheat. I refuse to accept that.

I feel that I will always have this in the back of my mind, that regardless of how much a man loves me that maybe he too will cheat on me. Pretty messed up. This topic makes me think of the John Mayer song – Daughters. I wrote out the lyrics below and put the video for you to watch as well.

I know that it will take a lot of patience, from the man who wants to be with me, for him to understand why sometimes I may be a bit more difficult to break, why it takes me a bit longer to give in.

I know a girl,
She puts the color inside of my world
But she's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change

And I've done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I'm starting to see
Maybe it's got nothing to do with me

CHORUS
Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Oh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been standing in
Since the day she saw him walking away
Now she's left, cleaning up the mess he made

CHORUS
Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Boys, you can break
You'll find out how much they can take
Boys will be strong and boys soldier on
But boys would be gone without warmth from
A woman's good, good heart

On behalf of every man
Looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world

CHORUS
Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too
So mothers, be good to your daughters too
So mothers, be good to your daughters too
