I love to bake. A lot. My friends and loved ones love when I bake for them too. It makes me happy when they take a bite and drool over my goodies. Not to toot my own horn, but I believe that when things are made with love, your taste buds recognize and rejoice. That’s the joy of food.
My name is Mary Joy and my friends (your BHD editors) call me their very own cake boss. They asked me to share some of my recipes because love and joy should be shared.
Here are two easy and simple recipes for you to share with your loved ones. Nothing says I love you like yummy goodness. Give them a try and let me know how you did.
Crunchy Cinnamon Raisin French Toast
For a love filled breakfast, give this classic dish an extra bite.
Ingredients
3 large eggs
1/4-cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups corn flakes, crushed
4 slices of cinnamon raisin bread (or any bread of your choice)
1-tablespoon butter
How to do it:
- Whisk eggs, milk and vanilla together in a bowl
- Spread the crushed corn flakes onto a plate.
- Dip each slice of bread into the wet mixture, then gently press each slice into the cereal. Make sure both sides are completely coated with the cereal.
- Lay each coated slice individually on a plate while coating the rest of the bread. Do not stack the slices.
- Melt butter in a non-stick pan or skillet over medium heat; cook the coated bread in the melted butter until golden, approximately 4-5 minutes each side.
Chocolate Drizzled & Dipped Pretzel Hearts
A fun, simple and sweet no-bake treats for your loved ones, on love day.
Ingredients & supplies you’ll need:
-tiny twist pretzels (salted or unsalted)
-melted candy melts in pink, white and red or color of your choice (Michael’s or Bulk Barn)
-wax paper or parchment paper
-toothpicks/skewers
-cupcake liners
-decorated treat bags
-sprinkles or crushed peanuts
Melt your candy melts, each in separate microwaveable bowls, 40 seconds at a time. Make sure to stir in between.
Use a toothpick or wooden skewer to dip the pretzel into the melted candy melts. Use a small spoon to pour melted candy melts over the pretzel. Carefully place each dipped pretzel on wax paper or parchment paper to solidify.
To drizzle, place the pretzel on wax or parchment paper and use a teaspoon to drizzle melted candy melts over each pretzel. To decorate, add sprinkles or crushed peanuts while melted chocolate is still wet. To speed up the drying process, you can place the drizzled or dipped pretzels in the fridge.
Once your pretzels have solidified, you can place them in cupcake liners or decorated treat bags as a little gift for your loved ones.
Bon appetit!
