The rate for women going on disability due to an accident or illness is increasing annually, but very few of us protect our income or family with proper insurance. The reality is that most of us have settled with our company benefits. But if a disability claim happens, a coulda shouda woulda is not going cut it.
As per Canada’s public health statistics, “Reported long-term disability is more frequent among women than men (22.6% versus 19.6% respectively, a female-to-male ratio of approximately 1.15). Severe disability is more common among women. Women with a disability are less likely than men to be in a partnered relationship, and have lower income and employment rates, and less tangible social support, all representing added vulnerabilities”., (Public Health of Canada)
As women, it’s vital for us to take control NOW instead of waiting for things to fall apart beyond repair. We’re already paid less than the males in the work force, so don’t let a disability limit and lower your income. There are a different types of personal disability insurance options to choose from: own occupation, any occupation, shorter or longer waiting periods. I can assist with creating a personal disability plan that works within your budget. The key is to have something rather than nothing. And remember, your work benefits only follow you if you remain employed with that employer. (For the self-employed work, having disability is not an option, it’s a must. What would happen to your business if you weren’t there? Take control of your life and let’s make today the day you NEVER let disability hold you down!
