Dior to me exudes extravagance, theatrics and extremity; so naturally, I gravitated towards their haute couture SS 2011 catwalk makeup as inspiration for this edition of RUNWAY vs. REALITY.

Runway Look

I’ve been obsessed with winged liner since childhood, so I *almost always incorporate it into every makeup look I produce. I was so excited to be able to go extreme with the winged liner on this one completely over the top but very elegant & totally Dior! This look reminds me of Andy Warhol’s pop art female portraits that I admire & love.

Now, how-to take this Runway makeup & translate it into REAL life. As noted in my previous post, any element can be taken from a RUNWAY look and re-interpreted to suit your needs whether it be your facial structure, skin tone, etc.

I designed a Reality look that is very natural, fresh & vibrant. Here’s how I transformed Taryn:

I incorporated the same shape for the eye shadow but rather than using a strong pastel blue, I used a complimentary shade of burnt sienna.

Soften the lips by switching to a sheer, more wearable shade of raspberry red instead of a tangerine red that can easily look garish in real life settings & lighting.

The brows are still prominent with a slight 50’s feel but not as full and dark

Lastly, the very important winged liner but with a sleek & subtle approach

How to get the reality look in 5 easy steps:

1) On Face: Choose a liquid based foundation or tinted moisturizer for a dewy finish. Add a liquid or cream illuminator to the tops of the cheekbones for extra glow. Set with a touch of powder.

2) Add a sheer peachy blush on apples of cheeks with a medium sized tapered brush using c-shaped motions.

3) On Eyes: Apply a medium toned eye shadow to the inner part of the lids. Going upwards from the outer to the inner parts of the eyes. *Note: if your eyes are close-set, apply a light cream shadow on the very inner corners of the eyes to create distance.

4) Time to wing it! Draw your desired cat eye with a light hand using a brown pencil, then trace & fill in the shape with a black liquid eyeliner. Complete the look with a couple of coats of black lengthening mascara – lashes are optional.

5) On the Lips: Use a naturally enhancing lip tint or gloss. Choose a pinkish colour if you have a cool undertone, a peachy shade for an olive undertone, & auburn, raspberry, or plunmy shades for deeper skin tones.

List of products I used for both looks…
