I’ve never been known as one to relax. If my life could be a never-ending conveyor belt I’d be all for it. This of course, catches up with me, as my high anxiety lifestyle can’t be maintained.
People always tell me, “learn to relax,” but no one really taught me how. I find exercise helps but it’s hard to always add it into my schedule. Mediation helps yet I have trouble shutting out my thoughts.
In an attempt to solve this dilemma, I decided to take a quick trip to visit my sister, who lives in Jamaica. Maybe learn How Stella Got Her Groove Back and apply it to my life.
Beyond the scenic beauty that is Jamaica, it’s the culture that left me with life lessons. The people balance work and play, have a strong social support and just relax. It was a constant reminder that while its important to be the best you, work means nothing if you can’t enjoy the rewards once in awhile.
These simple reminders I often forget to add in my day-to-day because I’m rushing on to the next opportunity. I know I may not always be able to relax but I can stop once in a while, recognize all that I have and instead of forging ahead without acknowledgement, I can relish in it.
They’re small solutions, harder than they look but make life that much sweeter.
