I love entertaining outside in the spring. It’s calming, beautiful, and super easy!

Growing up, family always stopped by on the weekends to say hi or pick up some fresh herbs from my mom’s garden.  My dad built a pond with a waterfall and I would sit back and listen to the sound of the water cascading down the rocks – it was so relaxing. I always said when I had my own place I needed to have an outdoor space.

With these simple steps you can create your own little sanctuary right in your back yard:

Make a plan. You’re going to need seating, a table for eating and prep. A garden is ideal but if there’s limited space, planters will do the trick.  A grill is one of highlights of entertaining outside. Get your BBQ!

All about functionality. Choose seating that can be used as tabletop, such as ottomans that are waterproof and durable. It’s a great option when you’re entertaining many guests. Some of my favourite disposable plates are made from bamboo. They’re stylish, there’s no clean up and they’re biodegradable.  I also like planting fruits and herbs; it’s amazing how organic, homegrown produce enhances the taste of your food. When outdoor season is done you can always dry your herbs and bottle them for all year-round use. The best grill to get is one with a gas burner attached.  On a hot day you can boil your pasta’s or potatoes with ease while enjoying the outdoors.

Show your mom and loved how much you appreciate them. You don’t have to be slaving over a hot stove, or standing in a line to get a table at your favourite restaurant. Instead, create new memories right in the comfort of your own backyard.
