Our Team

Meet my sister Lindsay, an active 26 year old who enjoys running, soccer and works construction with our father.  Our soccer teammate Beth, who in her early forties, out exercised all of us on a weekly basis with rowing, biking, running and various ironman challenges and marathons; she’s our go-to person on extreme sporting event training.  Dawn, another soccer player, personal trainer and well rounded athlete in her mid-thirties, has been part of the team since day 1 – she continues to surprise us and motivate us, a living example of the small but mighty cliché.

As the team captain I’ve  completed a few running races in an attempt to build my distance and speed, climbed the stairs of the CN tower four times and spent more time at the gym training most weeks than I did at home.  Individually we were all athletic, competitive and dedicated; together we have a well rounded  a team capable of motivating each other to keep going and never give up.

TRAINING & FUNDRAISING

In April we began training: hikes on local trails, getting used to each others pace, new hiking shoes and equipment.  We discovered that the OXFAM trail is the Ganaraska Trail System which literally runs in our backyard.  With this local advantage, we hit the trial system and started to cover the sections of the trail to get a jump on the competition.  Practice hikes range from 5 – 15 km at one time.

We also started our fundraising and have been blessed with tremendous support from friends, family, co-workers and local businesses.  We made team shirts with the logos of our corporate sponsors, loaded up on Gatorade and power bars – we’re ready!  Or so we thought – 100km hike is no joke.

Our training is well under way and fundraising has begun with a goal this year of $5,000.00
