We’ve seen feathers make appearances at every notable fashion show since last year.  What’s not to love? They have a free and light appeal to them & truth be told, I feel very hippie-chic when I rock them. But simply wearing them on your clothes or in an earring isn’t enough.  It’s all about feather hair extensions!

I recently got mine done at Toronto’s new Doll Bar Inc - a salon dedicated exclusively to hair extensions. Owner and stylist Melissa McKenzie, is probably one of the sweetest individuals I’ve ever met. As soon as Daniella and I walked in, Melissa and her fabulous team greeted us with freshly made espressos and huge smiles. I felt right at home.

I’ve wanted feathers in my hair but nowhere could I find a place in the city to do them. Melissa hooked me up and gave me the trend’s back ground.

Cynthia Rowley F/W 2011

The trend really popped this past F/W 2011 season during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC, with the likes of designer Cynthia Rowley, including them in her runway collection. Although a recognition must be given to Rock idol Steven Tyler,  sporting the feather extensions long before we saw them pop up throughout the collections. But celebrities of all kinds are sporting feathers now.

Feathers are a great accessory for the summer and upcoming fall season. It takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to have done, dependent on the quantity, and are easy to maintain. You can wash and blow dry them with ease. The great thing about feathers is that Doll Bar Inc offers them in an array of colors & you can change them weekly if you wish.

If you want to rock this trend, you must go see Melissa and her team. For an appointment call 416-792-4455.

Doll Bar Inc is located at 1099 Queen St. West.
