When the heat becomes unbearable I like to go to a nice air-conditioned sanctuary that serves cold, delicious beer. However, you must know that not all beer is alike Lately, Toronto has been attempting to catch-up to its American counterparts in terms of beer quality.
It was once believed that Canadian beer was superior to American beer, but this is sadly not true. Over the last two decades there has been an explosion of craft breweries all over the US, offering amazing beers. Thankfully, there has been an emergence of more craft breweries and brewpubs in Toronto looking to match the quality and flavour found down south.
If you are looking for a place to broaden your knowledge of beer (which is quickly becoming the new wine) and quench your thirst here are a few of my favourite spots:
The Bier Markt – Either one of these locations is fantastic. Their European beer selection is unmatched in the city and they have great patios!
Bar Volo – They have fourteen taps, cask ales, homemade brews and a mind-boggling selection of bottled beers. This place has a great, comfortable atmosphere and is the perfect place for a post-work pint.
Beerbistro – This is a great place for local beers or imports. It has a classier atmosphere and offers some very hard to get brews.
The Rhino – This bar has it all. The beer is fantastic, the location couldn’t be hipper and the music is always great. They offer a great list of imported bottles and always have a fine choice of local craft beers on tap. A great weekend spot!
Also, keep an eye out for these local craft brews:
Spearhead Brewing Company’s Pineapple Express
And
Kensington Brewing Company’s Augusta Ale
Get out there, beat the heat and explore Toronto’s burgeoning beer culture with your man or friends.
