It’s been two weeks and you still cannot get over your ex. You find yourself in the comfort of your mumu scooping gigantic spoonfuls of Ben and Jerry’s chunky monkey flavored ice cream while watching “Bridgett Jones’ Diary.” Your phone rings, it’s your girlfriend begging you to go out with her. You barely muster the energy to say, No thank you from your cocoon.

It’s time for an intervention; sitting in your room eating tubfuls of ice cream is not helping you get over your ex, but here’s what will:

1.     Erase his number. Yes I know this seems harsh, but right now “less is more.” Erase his phone number (and bbm pin) from your cell phone. If he texts you do not respond, even if he tells you he misses you. Erase old text messages. Storing them in your inbox will only tempt you to re-read and re-analyze each one.

2.     Clean house. Put away any mementos that you have of your ex. You don’t need to be reminded of him every time you look at your dresser or your wall.  If you are inclined to look at pictures of him every time you go on your computer, consider moving those pictures to an external hard drive where they will be difficult to access.

3.     Avoid contact. What’s the point of meeting for coffee or dinner? The relationship is over. If he needs to drop off your stuff, have him deliver it to a mutual friend’s house and vice versa. If your ex and you have the same circle of friends, it may be hard to avoid each other. Perhaps now is the time to re-visit old friendships or make new ones.

4.     Get out of the house. The more time you spend at home the more inclined you may be to engage in stalker-like tendencies while visiting social networking sites.

5.       Celebrate your newly acquired single status. Go on a girl’s trip and re-discover why singlehood is so fun!

6.       Do Make-over, don’t make-under. Leave the house looking fresh. Get in shape. Now is the time to start that new fitness class you keep wanting to try.

7.       Flirt. Because you’re allowed. Pull out your favorite little black dress and go on a date.

8.       Stick to your guns. Remember why your relationship didn’t work. If you must, write a list of why he wasn’t good for you. Stick it on your mirror.

9.        Re-discover you. You now have more time to re-evaluate your goals and achieve them.

10.      Learn from your mistake. Use your past relationship as a learning experience and let it help you realize what you want in your next relationship.
