Another year, another chapter presenting new obstacles and opportunities. Another chance to start new, another chance to write our story. What do you want to accomplish this year? What personal goals have you set for yourself? While most are focused on setting resolutions, with the start of a new year, I would rather think of how to be better equipped to face the challenges we may have been presented with the year past.
How can we focus on improvement, rather than setting before us an overbearing set of resolutions. This year I’ve challenged myself to be a better version of myself and to trust myself enough to grow.
When you fail, fail big – forgive. Forgive the people around you, most importantly forgive yourself. – Anon

Any kind of motivational speaker or influencer or philosopher or Oprah groupie is going to tell you to make 2012 your best year yet.
And maybe that’s good (and amazingly vague) advice. Maybe that includes not making any resolutions. Maybe it includes deciding where you want your life, career or relationship(s) to go.
All I want you to know is: if 2012 isn’t the best year yet, don’t fret my pet.
With so much pressure on yourself anything short of achieving perfection willbe a disappointment. I think the best resolution (I hate that word, by the way; “resolution,” ugh, it’s like climbing Everest when you’ve smoked for 30 years and lose your breath walking from your couch to your fridge – completely unrealistically attainable) is to just: BE GOOD TO YOURSELF.
Stay kind and honest to your ideas and feelings, there’s nothing more damaging while trying to go above and beyond your expectations if you don’t let yourself fall flat on your face in the mud, then slipping again in a puddle while trying to get up.
Laugh. Learn (at least a little something). Try it again and again and again.
x, BHD.
