Lifting Weights is not for everyone. Spin Class is not for everyone. Zumba is not for everyone. Yoga is not for everyone. Running is not for everyone.

As with significant others, you must date fitness before you fall in love. Try out different classes, group workouts, boot camps, or even personal trainers before taking the plunge. If you don’t fall in love with what is “fitting” to you, then as in any relationship you will settle for less than your best.

Fitness is an inner relationship of personal health. We don’t always want to sweat or exert ourselves. But when you find a workout you love, it’s hard to say no to that workout. It makes you feel fearless. It makes you feel like Superwoman. That workout gives you happy endorphins. You want to go back for more. It’s a new love affair. It’s a love affair with fitness.

Here are some tools to help you date fitness:

  1. Gym Passes: Gyms sometimes offer free workouts for a day or week so you can try out their location.
  2. Passport To Prana: You can pay $30 (Toronto, Monteal & Vancouver) and $20 (Edmonton, Ottawa, Calgary, Victoria and Winnipeg) plus tax. Then you can explore different yoga studios around the city!
  3. Punch Cards: Some specialized studios like Flirty Girl Fitness offer punch card promotions in which you purchase groups of classes before committing to a larger membership.
  4. Free Sessions with Personal Trainer: Most trainers if they don’t have a full schedule will offer free sessions to see if you’re a great fit together. Inquire with a gym or freelance trainers.
  5. Bring A Friend Day: My girl Eva Redpath (my co-host of Mid Month Motivation) teaches a Body Conditioning By Dancers class. Who doesn’t love a fusion of dance & fitness? She’s having a Bring A Friend Day on February 20th to check out her classes!
  6. Word Of Mouth: When you start dating someone you usually ask around about his or her reputation. Same goes for fitness ask your friends what works for them!
