Yesterday, I was quite embarrassed by a judgment I made previously about someone. I judged someone without really knowing them and was proven wrong.
Yesterday, I was quite embarrassed by a judgment I made previously about someone. I judged someone without really knowing them and was proven wrong. Has that ever happened to you? I am sure it has. This guy was what I would call a stage 5 clinger, and I was totally put off by it obvi., when one day, I really needed some advice and was really down and guess who called me randomly with the best advice EVER? Yes him ! The one I misjudged. I felt like complete crap.

We all know that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and we should judge everyone by their character, but it is very easy to forget it. People do truly come into your life for a reason, and although I had no interest in being with him when he lent his ear and sound advice to me, I knew exactly why he was in my life.

Lesson learned, I will never embarrass myself this way again. I promise to always try to remember to be open to seeing the reasons why certain people are in my life, while witholding judgment until I find out.

Someone sent me this article titled “The Four Species of Wealthy Consumers” written by Robert Frank, for The Wealth Report, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The article stems from a study on luxury goods that a doctoral student and two professor have been conducting; more specifically the importance of “brand prominence” with luxury goods. They sought to figure out whether or not how noticeable a brand or logo is on a product matters to the wealthy consumer, and which type of wealthy consumer cares the most.

In researching they found that consumers that were really wealthy did not care so much about logos, and preferred luxury items that were more subtle. They also identified that those who were lesser wealthy were really adamant about bigger logos. The study was conducted by Young Jee Han, who is a doctoral student in at Marshall School of Business at USC for marketing.

See below the four identifiable groups of rich consumers as per his definition- taken from this article, in the Wealth Report.

Patricians. High in financial means, Patricians are “principally concerned with associating with other patricians rather than dissociating themselves from other classes of consumers. They use subtle signals because only other patricians can interpret them.” They pay a premium for understatement.

Parvenus. “Parvenus are affluent—it is not that they cannot afford quieter goods—but they crave status. They are concerned first and foremost with separating or dissociating themselves from the havenots while associating themselves with other haves, both patricians and other parvenus.” Parvenus love the Louis Vuitton logo, the researchers say.

Poseurs. Like Parvenus, Poseurs are “highly motivated to consume for the sake of status.” Poseurs “do not possess the financial means to readily afford authentic luxury goods. Yet they want to associate themselves with those they observe and recognize as having the financial means (the parvenus) and dissociate themselves from other less affluent people.” Poseurs like counterfeit luxury goods.

Proletarians. These are less-affluent consumers who also are less-status conscious. “Proletarians are simply not driven to consume for the sake of status and either cannot or will not concern themselves with signaling by using status goods. They seek neither to associate with the upper crust nor to dissociate themselves from others of similarly humble means.” They tend to avoid luxury goods altogether.

What do you think about his findings? Which category do you think you would fit in too? Do all these categories sum up the consumers in the luxury goods market?

Today is a different sort of post, I hope the person intended to read it does. I have a friend who seems to always be complaining about things going wrong in her life, it never ends. What makes it worse is she never seems to do anything to fix them. All she does is complain to anyone and everyone who will listen, she creates a pool of self-pity for herself. In all this time I wonder if she realizes that time being mad, angry, feeling sorry for herself, could have been spent doing something about it. I know you know at least one person in your life that is like that.

Quite frankly, I am tired of listening to her sob stories, I am tired of offering her advice and assistance and watching her still sit there in amazement at how much her life sucks.

Don’t get me wrong, I have those days and moments. I am sure you have them too. I have days where I feel like having a pity party for myself and sometimes I do just that. I take some time to sulk and be sad for a few days. I also know that after a few days if I don’t take the appropriate steps to fix what is wrong then it will always be the same. How come some people don’t know this? Is it that they don’t know or that they just don’t do it?

I feel sorry for my friend in question because she doesn’t even notice how much her negativity is attracting more negativity into her life. She does nothing but attract more of what she doesn’t want. After trying countless times to help her, to no avail, I feel that her energy will soon start to bring me down as well.

I really hope that she gets over herself and realizes that everyone encounters hard times, but that we are the only ones that can change the problems in our lives. I mean how else does it happen? Does she think that people just mysteriously sit there and their lives are fixed?! I mean really.

I was flipping around station to station current commercials while watching one of my shows. I stopped on a show called Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty. The show was so interesting. Made me think what does beauty means to me. Jessica Simpson and two of her friends, Ken and CaCee travel the world to see how other cultures define the term beauty and what lengths women go through to achieve it. Visits include Paris, Thailand, India, and Tokyo. In each country Jessica’s group is met by a beauty ambassador to educate them on the country’s beauty customs. Northern Thailand has a custom of young girls wearing 20 pound rings around their necks. The rings are a sign of beauty and wealth and will attract a better husband. In Paris the pressure to be thin to be a model in the fashion industry is the norm. Jessica talks to an anorexic model about her brave journey. I can’t wait to wait the rest of the season. Catch Jessica on Muchmusic Thursday’s at 8pm.

Love is cool, calm and collected
It plays tricks on you to keep you honest
Love is a patient comedian
Who helps you to get over the fearful ego
So you have the fearlessness to BE with yourself and another
I do not ask for easy beginnings
Because I know that the One meant for me will stick
With no effort on my behalf
There is no striving for love
There is no convincing love to stay
There is just you
Your fearlessness
And trust
Love will do the rest
