Characters including a sexy painter, a radical Communist, a young girl obsessed with Justin Timberlake, and an Iraqi American desperate to contact her family in the middle-east, each struggle with a desire for freedom from Iraq, lovers, friends or parents.

A portrait of the extraordinary (and ordinary) lives of a whole cross-section of Iraqi women. This work delves into the many conflicting aspects of what it means to be a woman in the age-old war zone that is Iraq. An unusually timely meditation on the ancient, the modern, and the feminine in a country overshadowed by war.

“When I was standing in the Saddam Art Center in Baghdad, I saw rooms after room of portraits of Saddam Hussein. I then wandered up some stairs into a back room and saw a haunting painting of a nude woman clinging to a barren tree. Her head was hanging, bowed, and there was a golden light behind her like a sun. I stood motionless in front of the painting. I felt she had captured something within me. “My heels are must pack item no matter where I travel. My heels make me feel young and sexy. I am a mother of two and do not get to go out as often as I would like, but when I do, heels are always included. I love to wear my heels to the mall because it garners attention whether I am waiting in line to pay for new heels or just strutting around the mall. I have noticed a lot of people were confused as to how the winner for These Heels Were Made For Walking, would be selected. Please see an explanation below; I hope it makes things clearer. Please let me know if you have futher questions.

 The score that appears at the top of each contestants page is the median average of points accumulated based on the number of votes that contestant has received.  For example, if one contestant has received 700 votes and another has only received 500, but the second contestants score is higher, it’s because they received more votes with a higher point value than the first contestant – quality over quantity is key.  In other words, having the highest number of votes does not necessarily mean that person is in the lead to win, it only indicates that they received more votes in general, whether they be ½ heart or 5 full hearts.  The more hearts that a contestant receives per vote will provide them the chance to win the grand prize.
