Alicia Keys has this way of singing songs that represent phases in my life, what a delight. To know that I am going through something, and through her lyrics can hear her echo that same emotion. SUBLIME ! I am sure all women feel this way, she has this gift of singing directly to us. Here is my favourite song off her last album – this song is titled “Unthinkable” here is the video. I know its posted everywhere, but I had to post it, since its my fav. !

I went to bed with this song playing, woke up with it playing. It’s so fitting for what I feel right now. I had to share, each and every lyric in this song depicts our story… By far my favorite song on her latest album.

 I love love love me some Alicia Keys, fingers crossed I get to go see her show this Wednesday in Toronto. Have you caught this show in your city? The last concert I saw of her was sublime, the best concert ever. She had me crying, smiling and living through so many memories as I sang along. All I have to say is she is untouchable 30 Million albums sold. Enough said !

Inspiration to me comes in different forms, as I am sure it probably comes to you too. I look for inspiration every day, from any place. Some days it can be something as simple as a lyric in a song, something someone says, or a quote I read somewhere. This morning, it came in the form of a song. My alarm clock is set up to play random songs in the morning. I woke up to Alicia Keys feat. John Mayer “Lesson Learned”. When I first heard this song I didn’t like it. Then I heard it again and, it couldn’t have come at a better time, my heart was hurting. What I liked the most about this song, was although she was experiencing heartache in the song, instead of wallowing in self pity she allowed herself to go through the motions of feeling sad. She then turned around and decided to see the experience as a lesson, instead of being angry, she saw it as an opportunity to learn and grow.

One particular line in the song, stuck to me and inspired me and still does.

“It’s called the past, cause I’m getting past and I ain’t nothing like I was before. You oughta see me now.”

This line made me feel that, although I felt defeated at that moment, I was eventually going to get over that moment and it would be a part of my past. Then, I would have the opportunity to grow, and become a strong woman because of it. As I think I have done !

This came out a few years ago, but seeing that it was soooo good and today marks the release date of Alcia Keys brand new album. (all three versions that I am on my way to go buy). I thought I would switch the quote of the day to showcase one of her great poems from her Songbook of poems and lyrics:  Tears for Water. She later performed this poem at the Def Poetry Jam, which I have included a clip of because its so good. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I also copied the poem for your reference below.
