In October, I had the pleasure of reading  “Girl On Top” by Nicole Williams and doing a review. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, as it could not have come at a better time. I was looking for inspiration in taking my career to the next level. That’s exactly what I found in this book, Nicole Williams shares a multitude of dating rules turned into career rules.  I would recommend this book to any woman who is ambitious about her career, and looking for inspiration on how to climb the corporate later while staying true to herself in the process. She is a best-selling author, a career expert and surely an ambition career minded woman.

Last week, I received this book in the mail and couldn’t wait to read it. I was right about it. I loved every minute of reading it. I am in love with my career and often felt that it was similar to a relationship. In this book the author Nicole Williams, tells it like it is, relating career advice to relationship advice, she also does it in a way that is so easy to understand. Reading this book is like having a good conversation with one of your girlfriends. LOVED IT !

If you are a career driven woman as I am, you should definitely read this book. Nicole sheds some light on some topics I was too afraid to bring up or didn’t feel comfortable speaking to people about. She holds no bars on this one.

Here are some of my favorite parts:

• “Sometimes we need exposture to a lot of the wrong options before we land on the right one.”
• “As with any kind of love affair, your career development evolves in three distinct phases, each offering different opportunities and challenges”
• “It is invebitable that the thing you initially loved the most about your job is what ends up being the thing you hate”
• “When you’re so busy flying from task to task that you don’t take the time to enjoy what you do, the flame is bound to fizzle”
• “When you’re in constant “give mode”, burnout comes on full speed. If your career feels like a one-way street, take stock of what you’re getting out of the hours you’re slogging”
• “You are you alone are your biggest career asset and you need to nurture, protect and invest in yourself with a vengeance. You need to hone and trust your instincts. You need to have standards and never settle for less than what you deserve. If you don’t love you- proftect you, promote you, invest in you-your career won’t give you anything back”

Those were some of my favorite parts of the book that I hope to always remember. In more than one way, this book struck a chord. As you may remember, earlier in this blog, I shared with you the feeling that I needed to move on from my job and do something else. This book sparked that fire again and makes me more confident than ever that I could do this.
