MJB Quote of the day

“You demand respect and you’ll get it. First of all, you give respect.” – Mary J. Blige

Growing up my father would always say “Respect yourself first, if you want others to respect you.” I never quite understood it growing up, but it makes   a lot of sense. You set the standard for how people should treat and respect you. At the same token, as Mary says, you can’t expect people to respect you, if you don’t respect them. I think it goes hand it hand, if you don’t respect others, you don’t respect yourself.

Life’s greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved

-Victor Hugo

I loved reading this, early this morning. I can relate to this quote on so many levels, for many years I thought I was on my own and searched to find proof that I was indeed loved. Sometimes I searched it in the wrong places, when I did however find it, in the right places. When I saw that I was indeed loved, it gave me so much strength and happiness. I rested at ease, knowing that I was supported and loved by others.

“Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do and damned if you don’t.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt

It is always important to listen to yourself. You can never win by trying to please everyone , you can try to please everyone but you will never find true happiness within yourself as you will probably end up sacrificing what makes you happy. In the end always make sure to do what you think is best, this way you can always stay in alignment with your values and morals.
